FSSAI Registration in India – Ensure Legal & Safe Food Business Operations

FSSAI Registration is a mandatory legal requirement for all food-related businesses in India, designed to ensure the safety, hygiene, and quality of food products served or sold. Whether you’re a home-based kitchen, a street vendor, or a large food chain, obtaining your FSSAI Registration helps build trust and ensures compliance with Indian food safety laws.

Get your FSSAI License quickly and hassle-free with IndiaFills.com! Our experts guide you through choosing the correct category and license for your food business while ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.

What is FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI Registration is governed by the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011, and is mandatory for individuals or entities involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products in India.

It differs from an FSSAI License based on business size and turnover.

Why FSSAI Registration is Important

FSSAI Registration is crucial for all Food Business Operators (FBOs)—from cloud kitchens and home tiffin services to restaurants and food trucks. It:

  • Ensures food safety compliance
  • Builds customer trust and brand credibility
  • Legally allows you to operate your food business in India

Key Features of FSSAI Registration

  • 14-Digit FSSAI Number: All food packages must carry a 14-digit license number containing state and manufacturer details.
  • Quality Assurance: Enforces food safety accountability and quality control.
  • Applicability: Required for all FBOs—from petty food vendors to large manufacturing plants—based on the business scale.

Who Requires FSSAI Registration or License?

If you are involved in any of the following activities, you must obtain an FSSAI license or registration:

  • Retailers, bakery owners, petty food vendors
  • Temporary or fixed stalls, hawkers, and street food sellers
